Diario al Día | Santo Domingo, República Dominicana — Familiares sepultaron este martes los restos de la adolescente de 14 años que perdió la vida dentro del hogar de CONANI en San Antonio de Guerra, once días después de la tragedia.
El sepelio tuvo lugar en el cementerio municipal de Boca Chica, entre lágrimas y reclamos de justicia que se alzaron con fuerza contra las autoridades del Estado.
La menor falleció el 24 de mayo mientras los demás residentes del centro dormían. Tres adolescentes de 14, 16 y 17 años enfrentan cargos de homicidio por el hecho.
Según el expediente, una testigo relató que las imputadas llevaron a la víctima al baño bajo el pretexto de darle una sorpresa. Allí la inmovilizaron y la asfixiaron con una sábana y el cordón de un pantalón.
Después, acomodaron el cuerpo junto a la cama para simular que la muerte fue consecuencia de una caída accidental mientras dormía.
El pasado lunes, la jueza Nicol Mejía, de la Segunda Sala Penal de Niños, Niñas y Adolescentes de Santo Domingo, dictó 30 días de internamiento provisional para las tres imputadas.
Sin embargo, el dolor de los familiares no solo proviene de la pérdida. La forma en que recibieron el cuerpo los dejó sin palabras y llenos de indignación.
"En tres fundas me entregaron a esa niña, primera vez que yo he visto cosas así, sin ropa, sin nada", denunció entre sollozos uno de los parientes presentes en el sepelio.
Los allegados también cuestionaron la cadena de decisiones que llevó a la menor al hogar de CONANI. Según relataron, la joven ingresó al sistema tras acudir a un hospital por un dolor de cabeza.
"Esa niña fue para el hospital con un dolorcito de cabeza y de ahí se la entregaron a CONANI", reclamó una de las presentes, visiblemente consternada.
La adolescente, de nacionalidad haitiana, había ingresado al Sistema Nacional de Protección apenas nueve días antes de su muerte, luego de permanecer hospitalizada sin que ningún familiar reclamara su custodia.
Además, los dolientes señalaron directamente la ausencia de vigilancia en el recinto como una falla que costó la vida de la joven.
"¿Cómo es que CONANI no tiene seguridad? Si hubiera tenido, la vida de esa muchacha no se iba a perder", aseveraron frente al féretro.
Por consiguiente, la familia rechazó los pronunciamientos oficiales sobre el supuesto cumplimiento de protocolos y exigió que el Estado asuma la responsabilidad de esta falla en su sistema de protección.
Tras el suceso, CONANI suspendió preventivamente al personal de seguridad del centro e intervino las instalaciones. Distintas instituciones revisan los protocolos de supervisión en los hogares de paso.
Finalmente, el caso reabrió el debate sobre la capacidad real del Estado para garantizar la integridad de los menores bajo su custodia. ¿Qué reformas exige un sistema que no pudo proteger a la niña que tenía a su cargo?
