Diario al Día | Santo Domingo, República Dominicana — El comunicador dominicano Aneudys Santos pide disculpas a Leah Francis Campos, embajadora de Estados Unidos en República Dominicana, luego de reconocer públicamente que realizó comentarios inadecuados sobre aspectos personales relacionados con la fe de la diplomática hace aproximadamente dos meses.
Santos difundió este domingo un video a través de sus plataformas digitales en el que asumió la responsabilidad por sus expresiones y afirmó que las palabras utilizadas durante sus críticas «no fueron los más indicados».
En su mensaje, explicó que consideró necesario ofrecer primero una disculpa a Campos «como ser humano y dama» y posteriormente por su función como representante del Gobierno estadounidense.
Durante la grabación, el comunicador admitió que no tenía autoridad para cuestionar las convicciones espirituales de otra persona y reconoció que sus planteamientos estuvieron marcados por expresiones que calificó como equivocadas.
«No soy quien, honestamente, para cuestionar la convicción espiritual de absolutamente nadie. Si la embajadora es cristiana, amén, eso está fenomenal», manifestó Santos.
El comentarista también señaló que utilizó expresiones «erráticas» y calificativos que describió como «inmerecidos» e «innecesarios», por lo que decidió realizar una corrección pública de sus declaraciones. Además, recurrió al mensaje cristiano del perdón y pidió a la embajadora aceptar sus disculpas.
La aclaración de Santos ocurre después de que explicó que sus comentarios surgieron por su desacuerdo con la participación de Leah Francis Campos en el debate público alrededor del Código Penal dominicano y la libertad de expresión.
Aunque mantuvo su respaldo a las manifestaciones ciudadanas relacionadas con ese tema, el comunicador indicó que cuestiona a sectores que, según su posición, podrían intentar aprovechar el debate para obtener beneficios políticos o fortalecer su imagen pública.
Santos también rechazó que sus declaraciones hayan respondido a instrucciones o presiones de otras personas. Durante su intervención aseguró: «A mí no me manda nadie. El error es totalmente mío», al asumir directamente la responsabilidad por sus palabras.
Asimismo, aclaró que sus diferencias con la diplomática no representan una postura contraria al Gobierno de Estados Unidos.
Explicó que en distintas ocasiones ha expresado respaldo a políticas impulsadas por el presidente Donald Trump y reiteró que su principal equivocación fue referirse a la vida espiritual de Campos.
La reacción del comunicador se produjo luego de una publicación realizada por la embajadora estadounidense en defensa de la libertad de expresión, tras circular un video en el que Santos utilizó calificativos como «incompetente», «fascinerosa» y «ligera» para referirse a ella.
Con su mensaje, Santos buscó dejar establecida su posición sobre las críticas emitidas anteriormente y separar sus diferencias sobre temas públicos de cualquier valoración relacionada con las creencias personales de la representante diplomática. ¿Aceptará la embajadora las disculpas ofrecidas por el comunicador?
