Diario al Día | Estados Unidos — La muerte de Xavier Bautista, un dominicano de 32 años encontrado sin vida el pasado 4 de julio en Cambridge, Massachusetts, es investigada por las autoridades estatales luego de que el trabajador municipal fuera localizado tras un incidente ocurrido mientras se encontraba fuera de servicio.
Bautista se desempeñaba en el Departamento de Obras Públicas de Cambridge y su caso comenzó a ser investigado durante la madrugada del feriado, cuando un ciudadano realizó una llamada al sistema de emergencias 9-1-1 para alertar sobre una persona que permanecía en el suelo cerca de la intersección de Broadway y Norfolk Street, en las cercanías de Sennott Park.
De acuerdo con la Fiscalía del Condado de Middlesex, los equipos de respuesta llegaron al lugar alrededor de las 5:30 de la mañana y encontraron el cuerpo del dominicano. Los servicios de emergencia confirmaron que presentaba una herida de bala y que había fallecido en el sitio.
Las primeras investigaciones apuntan a que el hecho habría ocurrido aproximadamente una hora antes de que las autoridades recibieran la alerta y encontraran a Bautista.
Sin embargo, los investigadores todavía trabajan para reconstruir los momentos previos al incidente y determinar qué ocurrió antes del hallazgo.
Hasta ahora, las autoridades no han comunicado arrestos relacionados con el caso ni han dado a conocer un posible motivo.
La pesquisa permanece abierta bajo la dirección de la Fiscalía del Condado de Middlesex y el Departamento de Policía de Cambridge, organismos que buscan establecer la identidad de los responsables y esclarecer las circunstancias del suceso.
Tras conocerse la noticia, la alcaldesa de Cambridge, Sumbul Siddiqui, y el administrador municipal, Yi-An Huang, manifestaron sus condolencias a los familiares y allegados del trabajador mediante un comunicado conjunto.
En el mensaje resaltaron la dedicación de Bautista y el servicio que brindó a la ciudad durante su labor en el Departamento de Obras Públicas.
